Baby bottle syndrome

How To Avoid Baby Bottle Syndrome

Baby bottle syndrome is a term for early decay of a baby’s teeth. This can occur when the baby is put to bed with a bottle of milk (including breast milk), formula, fruit juice or other sweetened juice. This allows liquid to pool around the teeth while your child sleeps, which creates a perfect environment for bacteria to damage the tooth enamel. Baby bottle syndrome can also happen when a baby is frequently given a bottle to calm him or her down, or if a child’s pacifier is dipped in sugar or honey. This usually happens to the upper front teeth, since those are the first baby teeth to emerge, but it can affect others as well.
